When Stan Kitchen of Studio Music Publishing asked me to make a Latin American arrangement of Rossini’s famous overture The Barber of Seville, he suggested that it would work well as a samba. However, when I started working on it I decided that it felt right as a salsa. I was then able to borrow some of the rhythmic figurations from my own salsa ‘The Dancing Lady’ although the rhythms in ‘Barber’ are generally simpler.
Given that ‘salsa’ means ‘sauce’ it was then only a short step to come up with the title ‘Barber Queue Sauce’ for which I apologise unreservedly!
