Way back in the last century the Band of the Coldstream Guards, together with a rock rhythm section that included guitar legend Jeff Beck, made it into the pop charts with a rock version of Handel’s Water Music entitled Heavy Water. Having asked the band whether they still had the music, I discovered an arrangement that was enjoyable, but inevitably of its time. However, the concept of a lateral re-think of Handel’s music stayed with me and the result is this funk version - Heavier Water. It should be noted that, although the piece features the bass guitar, it works perfectly well without it.
