In 1921 the composer Gustav Holst was asked to set the words of I Vow to thee, My Country by Sir Cecil Spring-Rice to music. At the time Holst was extremely over-worked and he was greatly relieved to discover that the words fitted the broad melody from Jupiter, a movement of his suite The Planets. This arrangement stays true to the spirit of Holst’s music while carefully augmenting the band parts where appropriate.
