The music in this collection is deliberately tuneful and rhythmic while the technical demands are designed to make it accessible to community bands. I wrote it with my friends in the Aylesbury Concert Band in mind and they were the first group to perform it.

(I) Fanfare

The first movement, Fanfare, is a bright and breezy introduction with lots of rhythmic energy in its syncopation.

(II) Dreaming

Dreaming drifts gently, with the accompaniment providing the sense of movement under the melodic line.

(III) Ostinato

Ostinato is a bit of fun, throwing various figures and textures over a persistent rhythmic shape.

(IV) Water Garden

Water Garden is a tranquil oasis but, unlike Dreaming, it is the rhythmic movement that is the main feature.

Easy Does It, is a bluesy swing tune which allows everyone to let their hair down as the Divertimento romps to its end.
