Grenadiers! was written at the request of Major Kevin Roberts, at the time Director of Music of the Band of the Grenadier Guards, for a recording to commemorate the Band's 325th Anniversary. My aim was to compose a piece using music associated with the Regiment and which also displays the brilliance of this fine band. I decided to use only material taken from the Grenadier Guards' quick and slow regimental marches - British Grenadiers and Handel's March from Scipio -but tried to set them in a new guise.
