Triumphant!

This positive, vivacious and tuneful overture was written for my friends in the Chiltern Concert Band. One of the tunes is actually based on the rhythm of the names of some of the stalwart members who were in the band when I conducted it in the early 1990s and are still there now.

The piece commences with an arresting and triumphant fanfare which accelerates into one of several bright and optimistic melodies mostly built around the interval of a third. There is a slow middle section and then a number of the melodies are recapitulated in a different order before the fanfare returns to herald the triumphant ending. In compositional terms this piece is in the light vein of Chase the Sun and High Spirits.
